Everyone wants to find a good deal, especially when purchasing a cruise. I was talking with a friend who is a cruise consultant and she lamented that so many calls begin with, “I want a cheap cruise.”

To begin with, cruising is one of the best values for your vacation dollar. That is a travel industry fact. Cruising includes all your meals, entertainment, and travel to multiple destinations. Dollar for dollar, you could not duplicate the price paid for a cruise on your own.

I believe that what most people want is not the cheapest cruise but the best deal. I’ll be writing a lot more about this as there are some very important things to do and know in getting the best deal.

So what are cheap cruises? Lets take a look at the what and why of the cheap or low price. Low price means the following: shorter durations, lower decks, off season (September, October, November), interior (no window), less desirable locations on the deck (cabins far forward on the decks, under or above noisy areas), cabins with obstructed views (nothing worse than booking that balcony stateroom only to find the view blocked by a life boat!) ……. in other words, most often the cheap price often means that you are giving up something in exchange for additional savings. Sometimes that is acceptable. Other times it will be the reason your cruise experience in ruined!

Always ask why the price is low. There is a reason. And it isn’t usually because you have found the deal of a life time.

There is wisdom in the adage, you get what you pay for!
